I miss having cats. Except for the litterboxes. But we have coyotes, hawk, Mexican vultures, and bobcats nearby, so letting them out, even "supervised" wouldn't be good. And we both haven't fully recovered from the big C yet.
Individual humans may not have them in the first place and others may not have "replaced" the ones that have left them, but as long as we're human plenty of us will have pets.

IMO Humans will always have pets in our lives.

Have they stopped taking apart the water fountain?
